Submittal

Information a contractor submits for the design team’s approval before ordering or installing, such as product data, samples or shop drawings.

Submittals show that what the contractor plans to buy and install meets the design: data sheets, material samples, mock-ups and shop drawings. The architect or engineer returns each one approved, approved as noted, or revise and resubmit.

Each submittal has to be approved in time for the material’s lead time.

Where it goes wrong

Comments on an “approved as noted” return often don’t reach procurement, which orders from the original submission.

What Spurby does

Tracks every submittal against the date it must be approved, and compares what was approved, comments included, with what is ordered.
