Terms of Service
The agreement between you and Spurby when you use the Spurby app for Mac, its server and this website.
About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Spurby (“we”, “us”). They cover the Spurby app for Mac, the server it works with, and spurby.co (together, “Spurby”).
By signing in to Spurby or using it, you agree to these terms, and you confirm you’ve read our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, don’t use Spurby.
What Spurby is
Spurby is a menu-bar app for Mac. With your permission, it reads the text on your screen through macOS Accessibility, in the apps you choose, and sends it to Spurby’s server. There, Spurby finds your open loops, such as what you’re waiting on and what you promised. It shows them to you with nudges, a weekly letter, Ask and drafted follow-ups.
The Privacy Policy explains what Spurby reads, what it never reads, and where your data goes. Spurby needs a Mac with macOS 13 or later, and a Google account.
Spurby is in beta
Spurby is new, and it changes often.
- Features may change, break or go away.
- Spurby may sometimes be unavailable.
- We may set limits, such as how many questions you can ask in a day.
- An older version of the app may stop working until you update it.
Your account
- You sign in with your Google account. Keep it and your Mac secure. You’re responsible for what happens in your Spurby account.
- An account is for one person. Don’t share it.
- Tell us if you think someone else has used your account.
Your content
“Your content” means the text and workbooks Spurby reads in the apps you choose, and anything you enter in Spurby, such as your questions in Ask and your answers to its questions.
- You keep all your rights in your content.
- You give us a licence to host, copy, process, send and display your content, and to let our service providers do the same, only to run Spurby for you, keep it secure and improve it, as the Privacy Policy describes. The licence is worldwide, non-exclusive and free of charge.
- The licence ends when you delete your account, except for what the Privacy Policy says we keep (such as backups, for up to 7 days) and what the law requires us to keep.
Other people’s content
Spurby reads what’s on your screen in the apps you choose, including messages and documents from other people. They aren’t told. You’re responsible for using Spurby only where you have the right to. That means you:
- follow your employer’s rules, and any duty of confidentiality you have;
- follow the law, including privacy and data protection laws that apply to you;
- follow the terms of the apps you have Spurby read.
Tick only the apps you’re allowed to have Spurby read.
Acceptable use
Don’t:
- use Spurby to break the law or anyone’s rights;
- install Spurby on a Mac that isn’t yours to use, or use it to watch someone else’s screen;
- try to get around Spurby’s privacy protections, limits or security;
- try to access other people’s accounts or data;
- probe, overload or disrupt Spurby’s servers;
- send requests to Spurby’s server other than through the app;
- copy, decompile or reverse engineer the app, except where the law allows it;
- resell Spurby, or use it to build a competing product.
Loops, answers and drafts
Spurby’s loops, nudges, letters, answers and drafts come from code and AI. They can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. Check them before you rely on them.
Spurby never sends anything for you. You decide what to copy and send, and you’re responsible for what you send.
Fees
Spurby is free to use during the beta. If that changes, we’ll tell you before any charge applies, and you won’t be charged unless you agree.
Updates
The app checks for a new version once a day and asks you before it installs one. To keep Spurby working, we may require a minimum version. Until you update, an older version may stop working.
Our rights
Spurby’s app, server, design and name belong to us. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use the app on the Macs you use, while you have an account and follow these terms.
If you send us feedback, we may use it without owing you anything.
Other services
Spurby works alongside apps and services we don’t control, such as Google, WhatsApp, Slack and Microsoft’s apps. Their own terms apply when you use them. We aren’t responsible for them.
Ending your use
- You can stop at any time. To delete your account and its data, use Delete everything in Settings › Privacy, then remove the app.
- We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, if we must to protect others or Spurby, or if we stop offering Spurby. Where we reasonably can, we’ll tell you first.
- When your account ends, your licence to use the app ends, and we delete your data as the Privacy Policy describes.
- The sections on your content, no warranty and limits on our liability still apply after your account ends.
No warranty
Spurby is provided “as is” and “as available”. As far as the law allows, we make no promises, express or implied, that Spurby will be accurate, complete, secure, uninterrupted, free of errors, or fit for a particular purpose.
Limits on our liability
As far as the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for lost profits, revenue, data or business.
Nothing in these terms limits any liability that the law doesn’t allow us to limit.
Changes to these terms
We may change these terms. We’ll post the new version here. If a change matters, we’ll tell you in Spurby or by email before it takes effect. If you keep using Spurby after that, you accept the new terms.
General
- These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about Spurby.
- If part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies.
- If we don’t enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later.
- You can’t transfer these terms to anyone else. We may transfer them to a company that takes over Spurby.
