Shop drawing
A detailed drawing prepared by a fabricator or subcontractor showing exactly how they will make and install a component.
Where design drawings show intent, shop drawings show fabrication: dimensions, connections, materials and fixings for items such as steel, rebar, facades, ducts and joinery. They are submitted for approval before fabrication starts.
They must be updated whenever the design drawings they are based on change.
Where it goes wrong
A fabricator can keep producing to a shop drawing based on a superseded revision when nobody tells them the design has moved on.
What Spurby does
Links each shop drawing to the revision it is based on, and flags one that’s out of date.
