Rollover

Also called: Rolled cargo

When a shipping line moves a booked container to a later vessel than the one it was booked on.

Lines roll cargo when a vessel is overbooked, skips a port or a container misses its cut-off. The line tells the forwarder, and the new vessel can sail days or a week later.

Every date built on the old sailing, from arrival to the customer’s delivery slot, moves with it.

Where it goes wrong

The notice reaches the forwarder, but the importer’s customs broker, the warehouse and the letter of credit stay on the old dates.

What Spurby does

Updates each container’s dates from the line’s notice, and drafts updates for every party whose plan depended on the old ones.
