Cut-off

Also called: CY cut-off, VGM cut-off, documentation cut-off

The deadlines before a sailing by which a container must reach the terminal and its weight and documents must be filed.

Lines and terminals publish cut-offs for each sailing: the CY cut-off for gate-in of the full container, the VGM cut-off for its verified weight, and the documentation cut-off for the shipping instructions. Missing one usually means the box is shut out.

Cut-offs can change at short notice.

Where it goes wrong

A revised cut-off reaches one inbox, while the trucker and the factory keep the old plan and the container misses the gate.
