Concession

Also called: Deviation, waiver

A customer’s permission to use or ship parts that don’t fully meet the specification, limited to a quantity, lot or period.

Concessions let production continue while a problem is fixed, for example by accepting one lot with a cosmetic defect after 100% sorting. They should state exactly what is accepted, for how many parts and until when.

Once the limit passes, the normal specification applies again.

Where it goes wrong

A one-lot concession given on a call is cited again for later lots, and defects get accepted without anyone deciding to.

What Spurby does

Records each concession’s limits and flags any shipment that goes beyond them.
