PPAP

Also called: Production part approval process

The process a supplier follows to prove a part and its production process meet the customer’s requirements before series supply.

PPAP, defined by the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG), asks for evidence such as dimensional results, material certifications, the process flow, control plan and capability studies, summarised in a part submission warrant. The customer approves it before series production.

Changes to the part, process, material or sub-suppliers, such as a new heat-treat or plating source, generally need the customer told and may need a new submission.

Where it goes wrong

Supplier changes mentioned in passing, like a new heat-treat vendor, never trigger a change notice or a new PPAP.

What Spurby does

Reads supplier messages against each part’s approved record, flags a change, and asks for the formal notice.
