Advance shipping notice (ASN)
Also called: ASN
An electronic notice a supplier sends before a delivery, listing what is in the shipment and when it will arrive.
An ASN lists the parts, quantities, revisions, lot numbers and packaging in a shipment, and is usually sent by EDI or through a supplier portal. The customer uses it to plan receiving and check the delivery against orders.
It should reflect the latest schedule and revision.
Where it goes wrong
When dates or revisions change on calls, the ASN can still show the old ones, and receiving finds out at the dock.
What Spurby does
Checks each ASN against the agreed schedule and current revision, and flags a mismatch before the truck arrives.
