Proof of delivery (POD)

Also called: POD

The document, usually signed by the consignee, confirming that goods were delivered, with any remarks about shortage or damage.

A POD records who received the goods, when and in what condition. Remarks such as damaged or short cartons are the basis for a claim, and notice periods are short: under the Hague-Visby Rules, damage that isn’t apparent at delivery must be notified within three days.

Invoicing often waits for the POD.

Where it goes wrong

A POD signed “received in good order” over wet cartons, or one that never arrives, weakens the claim and delays billing.

What Spurby does

Chases missing PODs, checks remarks against delivery photos, and starts the claim-notice clock.
