Certificate of analysis (CoA)

Also called: CoA

A document from a manufacturer or lab reporting a batch’s test results against its specification.

A CoA lists each test, its result and the specification limit, and states whether the batch conforms. Buyers rely on supplier CoAs for incoming materials, and contract labs issue them for the testing they do.

The limits on a CoA should be those of the current specification.

Where it goes wrong

After a limit is tightened, a lab can keep reporting against the old one, and its certificates still say pass.

What Spurby does

Reads each certificate against the current specification, and tells QA and QC when a result fails it.
